What to Expect During a Massage: Your First Visit Demystified

Whether you're new to massage or just curious about what happens behind the treatment room door, we want you to feel confident, comfortable, and fully prepared. At Sweetest Massage & Therapy, your wellness journey starts the moment you walk in the door—so let’s walk you through what you can expect from start to finish.

Step 1: A Warm Welcome and Intake Form

When you arrive, you’ll be greeted with a warm smile and sign in to our kiosk letting us know you've arrived. Then you'll be asked to fill out a brief intake form. This helps us understand your health history, areas of concern, and what you hope to get out of your session. Whether you're seeking pain relief, improved range of motion, or simply deep relaxation, we tailor your massage to meet your needs.

Pro Tip: This only takes about 5 minutes at most so give yourself a few minutes to have time to relax before your session starts.

Step 2: Setting the Intention

Before we begin, we’ll have a short conversation to discuss your comfort preferences—pressure level, areas to focus on (or avoid), and any recent injuries or chronic pain. You’ll also be asked about your preference for music, aromatherapy, or any spa-like enhancements such as hot towels or a foot scrub.

Step 3: Getting Comfortable

Once we’ve reviewed everything, you’ll be given privacy to undress to your comfort level and lie under a sheet on a cozy, heated massage table. Most clients begin face-down, and we always use professional draping techniques to keep you comfortable and secure at all times.

At Sweetest Massage, we also offer a warm neck roll, an infrared sauna session beforehand, and the use of a specialty machine to scan for tension points. Everything is designed to enhance your comfort and maximize your results.

Step 4: The Massage Begins

Your massage will be customized based on your needs. That may include:

  • Swedish techniques for relaxation

  • Deep tissue work for tight muscles or injury

  • Trigger point therapy to target specific knots

  • Assisted stretching for improved mobility

As we work, feel free to speak up if you’d like more or less pressure, need an adjustment, or simply want to chat (or not!).

Step 5: The Finishing Touches

We’ll gently ease you out of the session with calming techniques to ground your energy. If your session includes a longer time, you may receive extra touches like a foot scrub or a warm towel wrap. When it’s over, we’ll leave the room so you can take your time getting up.

Step 6: Aftercare & Recommendations

Once you’re dressed, we’ll check in and offer tips like drinking water, taking an Epsom salt bath, or stretching at home to keep the good vibes going. You’ll also have the option to schedule your next session or ask about our monthly subscription program.

Client favorite: "I always feel like I’m walking on clouds when I leave!"

Final Thoughts

Massage therapy is more than just a luxury—it’s a form of bodywork that can support your health, reduce stress, and help you feel like yourself again. Whether it's your first massage or your fiftieth, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
